You may have the most touching, informative — or funny — stories and other content. But without a message, your speech at best may be entertaining. But most often, it is missing its purpose. Sort of like a great ship without a captain: stuck at sea, going no where.
And this is one of the most common and irritating challenges of public speaking: Great stories, but no clear message about what the audience ought to do, feel or think as a result of your speech. One world champion of public speaking said he had tried dozens of messages until he finally found a lie-changing winner. And his life has never been the same. In fact, that message became a key part of his branding as it has for other speakers who find their memorable and compelling message.
In this one-hour session, you will explore why a message is so critical to a speech and explore some strategies to help you uncover your message, reveal your voice.
Next week: Discovering the emotion in your speech, for influence, for sales, for engaging your audience. For business or personal storytelling.
